David Atkinson
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mergers & Acquisitions

David joined Raymond James in 2016 from the Royal Bank of Canada where he was a member of the bank's U.S. Strategy and M&A team. While at RBC, David was a key member of the deal team that executed the bank's $5.0 billion acquisition of City National Corporation. Prior to RBC, David was a member of the Financial Institutions Group at UBS Investment Bank in New York, where he focused on financial technology, asset management and specialty finance. Prior to UBS, David was a member of the government affairs team at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in Washington, DC., where he focused on financial services matters. David is a graduate of the MBA program at the Ivey Business School and the JD program at Western University, and he obtained his BA from the University of the South (Sewanee), where he graduated magna cum laude, with honors and distinction.

 

John R. Booth, CFA, B. Comm

John joined Raymond James in 2022 from Paradigm Capital, where he was Head of Investment Banking and Mining, with senior coverage responsibility for mining clients globally. John’s investment banking career has focused on resources for over 25 years. John spent ten years with Goldman Sachs in London and Toronto before becoming a Managing Director in the mining investment banking group of TD Securities. John has extensive experience advising on both M&A and financing transactions across a broad range of clients, commodities, products and markets. John holds a B. Comm (Honours) from Queen’s University (Kingston) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

 

Rajiv Chail, CFA

Rajiv joined Raymond James in 2018 and has over 15 years of experience in the Canadian capital markets. Prior to joining Raymond James, Rajiv was Vice President, Investment Banking at Cormark Securities. Rajiv has extensive experience advising on M&A and financing transactions across a broad range of clients. Rajiv earned an HBA from The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA Charterholder.

 

Jill Chua
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Financial Institutions and Financial Technology

Jill Chua joined Raymond James in 2021 and has considerable mergers & acquisitions and capital markets expertise. She has worked on numerous transactions across the large cap and mid markets sectors. Prior to Raymond James, Jill was a Partner and Senior Managing Director at Deloitte Canada. She also spent a decade at RBC Capital Markets in their investment banking group. Jill has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, an MEng in industrial engineering and a BASc in computer engineering, both from the University of Toronto.

 

Russell Green
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Diversified Industries

Russell Green joined Raymond James as managing director in March 2018. Prior to joining Raymond James, Russell worked for a Canadian bank-owned dealer with both coverage and execution responsibilities across industries including both M&A and equity and debt financing mandates. Russell has previously worked in New York at a large global investment bank and has been in Vancouver for the past 10 years. Russell holds an MBA from McGill University and a BA from the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA® charterholder.

 

Gilles Hickey
Director, Investment Banking

Gilles received a promotion to Director in 2023. Prior to joining Raymond James in 2021, he was a Vice President, Investment Banking at TD Securities. During his time at TD, Gilles gained valuable experience while working in the Financial Sponsors Group, Mergers and Acquisitions group, and Global Energy and Power Group in both Toronto and Calgary. He has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

 

Adam Kauffman, CPA, CA

Adam Kauffman joined Raymond James in its New York office in 2004 and moved to the Toronto office in 2007. With 20 years of experience, Adam leads both the Canadian private placement and distressed advisory practices. He has significant experience raising privately placed debt and structured equity capital for growth clients across a broad array of sectors.  Adam also has extensive expertise advising clients on distressed M&A, out of court balance sheet recapitalizations, complex capital raising and Chapter 11 / CCAA transactions. Prior to joining Raymond James, Adam worked as a consultant to the World Bank Group and spent five years at Ernst & Young as an associate in the Corporate Restructuring group. Adam holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and an MBA from Georgetown University, where he graduated with honors.

 

Alan Kelly, CFA, P.Eng.

Alan Kelly joined Raymond James' Power and Infrastructure team in 2016 from CIBC World Markets, where he was an Associate in the Investment Banking Mergers and Acquisition team. He has advised both domestic and global clients on a broad range of transactions across various sectors including P&U, O&G, mining, engineering services, chemicals, automotive and TMT. Prior to his experience in Investment Banking, Alan worked for six years as a Systems Design Engineer and Team Lead at Thales Rail Signaling Solutions. Alan holds a professional engineering license, a BASc in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, where he graduated with honors.

 

Marwan Kubursi

Head of Health Care and Technology

Marwan Kubursi joined Raymond James in 2018 and has 20 years of experience in investment banking. Prior to joining Raymond James, Marwan was Managing Director, Investment Banking and Head of Technology and Life Sciences Investment Banking at Cormark Securities and has prior Investment Banking experience at Global and Canadian Investment Banks. He has a broad range of advising and financing experience raising capital for and advising corporations on acquisitions and divestitures in Health Care and Technology in Canada and the United States. Marwan earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University.

 

Yong Kwon

Yong Kwon joined Raymond James in 2021 and has 20 years of experience in investment banking and private equity. Prior to joining Raymond James, Yong was a Principal at INFOR Financial Group, responsible for Technology and Financial Sponsor investment banking coverage. Previously, Yong was a Partner with Novacap, a Montreal-based private equity firm, where he spent 5 years investing in TMT companies and playing a key role in building out the firm’s Toronto office. Yong has prior investment banking experience at global and Canadian investment banks, including Barclays and RBC Capital Markets. Yong earned an MBA from the Rotman School of Management and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

 

Jimmy Leung, CPA, CA, CFA

Jimmy Leung is Head of Sustainability Investment Banking. Jimmy joined Raymond James in 2005 from a bank-owned investment dealer, where he was a member of the investment banking group. Jimmy has considerable experience in financial advisory, financing and mergers and acquisitions activities, having been directly involved in over 150 successful transactions for public and private companies. Jimmy is a Chartered Accountant and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo.

 

Ian G. MacKay, CPA, CA, CBV

For the last 20 years Ian MacKay has been actively involved in in key financings, mergers and acquisitions in the construction and engineering, industrial and forest products sectors across Canada. Transaction experience includes the $125 million sale of Anthony Forest Products to Canfor, three separate equity financings for WSP Global as the co-lead underwriter totaling $950 million, the $320 million sale of North American Energy Partners’ Piling Division to Keller Group, the $68 million investment in Clark Builders by Turner Construction, the $390 million sale of Seacliff Construction to The Churchill Corporation, the $100 million IPO of Seacliff Construction, the $150 million IPO of Lockerbie & Hole, the $155 million sale of Steeplejack to The Brock Group, four separate equity sale transactions for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers totaling $500 million, the $115 million sale of Primex Forest Products to Interfor, the $660 million purchase and restructuring of TimberWest, and the $850 million purchase of Pacifica Papers. Ian has a degree in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of British Columbia. He holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designations.

 

Daniel Magder, CPA, CA

Mr. Magder joined Raymond James in 2015 from FTI Consulting, where he was a member of the corporate finance & restructuring group. Mr. Magder has considerable experience in financial advisory, financing, insolvency, corporate restructuring and mergers and acquisitions activities. Mr. Magder is a Chartered Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Yeshiva University.

 

Sean C. Martin, CFA, CFP
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Head of Financial Institutions and Financial Technology

Sean joined Raymond James in September 2014 from TD Securities, where he was a senior member of the Financial Institutions Group, and was responsible for building TD’s Financial Technology practice. Sean brings an extensive 15-year background and deep experience earned from playing an integral role in some of the most significant transactions involving financial institutions in Canada over the past decade. He is a well-respected investment banker with a track record for building profitable and strong relationships, coupled with a keen eye for recognizing and acting upon strategic opportunities. Prior to his nine years at TD, Sean worked with Manulife Financial (Toronto and Hong Kong) and Bank of Montreal (Toronto). Sean earned his MBA from the Rotman School of Management and BA from the University of Western Ontario, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner.

 

Craig McDougall, CA, CBV

Head of Investment Banking and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions

Craig joined Raymond James in 2014 from National Bank Financial, where he was Head of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group for the last 17 years. He was previously a Managing Director at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, and prior to that in the Corporate Finance Group at Ernst & Young. Craig has extensive experience on advising management teams and their Board of Directors over numerous industry groups in both hostile and friendly transactions. Craig is a Chartered Accountant (Ontario) and a member of the Canadian Institute of Charted Business Valuator (C.B.V.), he is past President and Board Member of the CICBV Institute.

 

Gavin McOuat, LLM, B.Comm

Gavin joined Raymond James in 2013 from Barclays, where he was Global Co-Head of Metals and Mining, with senior coverage responsibility for clients based in the Americas. Gavin began his mining investment banking career with UBS in 1994 and subsequently became a Managing Director in the investment banking divisions of National Bank and Citigroup. Gavin has extensive experience advising on M&A and financing transactions across a broad range of clients, commodities, products and markets. Gavin holds a LLM in Mineral Law and Policy from the University of Dundee (Scotland) and a B. Comm from Queen's University (Kingston). 

 

Eric Otto

Eric joined Raymond James in 2023 and has over 10 years of experience working in investment banking. Prior to joining Raymond James, Eric was a Director at RBC Capital Markets in the consumer, retail, industrial and healthcare group. He has a broad range of client coverage and transaction experience advising on mergers and acquisitions, as well as equity and debt financings. Eric earned his HBA from the Ivey Business School.

 

Jason Robertson
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Head of Diversified Industrials

Jason joined Raymond James in November 2022 as Managing Director and Head of Diversified Industries. Prior to this, he was a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Canaccord Genuity since 2016 and with Stifel GMP before that. Jason has a wide range of industry expertise across various sub-sectors including: advanced manufacturing, consumer & retail, infrastructure, transportation & logistics and business services amongst others. He is also experienced in both financing transactions and M&A advisory roles. Jason earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University.

 

Robert Sutherland
Managing Director, Investment Banking
Head of Real Estate

Robert joined Raymond James in February 2024 as Managing Director, Head of Real Estate on the Investment Banking Team. Robert has over 25 years of real estate experience with the last 12 years comprising of senior positions within the capital markets. Most recently he was a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Laurentian Bank running the real estate group and before that was Head of Real Estate Investment Banking at Echelon Wealth Partners. Prior to investment banking Robert was an equity research analyst, winning the StarMine award for top stock picker in the Canadian REIT sector in 2017 and worked in the global investment and strategy groups of a major pension fund. Robert has a BA (urban and economic geography) from the University of Toronto and attended the Henley Business School at the University of Reading in the MSc (real estate investment and finance) program.

 

John Willett, MBA, M.Eng

John is a well respected professional with 20 years of senior experience in mining finance and advisory work. Prior to joining Raymond James, John was a Managing Director with Haywood Securities. John holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, as well as a Masters of Engineering from McMaster University.
